He starts with the basics and ends up explaining anti-squat via all points in between, all helped with copious color photos and a few diagrams. For the life of me I can't think of another book in English that covers the same sort of terrain, so I suspect that there's an audience for the information in this 128-page softback. It's published by David Bull Publishing for $24.95, which given the state of the dollar on the international exchange markets, makes it a bit of a bargain. --SuperBike

...If you own a modern motorcycle of any type and you don't have a copy of this book. You're doing yourself a huge injustice. I've bought and sold this book several times before and I kick myself in the CULO every time I need it and can't find it. I'm keeping this one all to myself. Get your own. No seriously, don't loan this book out. You'll never get it back. You will most likely not understand most of this stuff if you just started riding a year ago, but eventually you will need this information. So, you might as well should start educating yourself from an early age. Also, no matter how new a rider is, everyone needs a proper: free sag, rider sag, spring rate for their bodyweight and pre-load. All things explained in simple and detailed layman's terms in this book. You're welcome, good night!

Andrew Trevitt really nailed it with this book. It doesn't get too in depth with things such as rebuilding shocks, re-valving, etc. and I don't blame him. With the variety of brands of just rear shocks on the market you could literally fill up an entire book with describing each one. Then the book would be more of a technical manual and not a guide.Anywho the book should literally be required reading for people doing trackdays or if they are going to at the least try to optimize their suspension. 99%+ of people I've run into don't have the first clue how motorcycle suspensions work and will aimlessly turn screws. With the super advanced nature of modern super sport motorcycle suspensions this is a baaaaad move and you'll wind up with an unpredictable and downright dangerous bike. Once you understand what the dynamic and static suspension adjustments do and how/why you should adjust them you are better suited to adjust them. Long story short: Get this book! Like I said if you have a certain Penske rear shock and want to know how to rebuild it, this isn't the book for you. If you're new to sport bikes and are going to be doing trackdays and want to not sound like an idiot when you go to get your suspension adjusted by an expert: READ THIS BOOK! You don't want to know how often people start explaining all the adjustment they've done to their damping, preloads, steering dampers, etc to a suspension tuner only to have them put everything back to stock specs (and often times fix the weird problems the user was experiencing).

Sportbike Suspension TuningAfter reading the Motorcycle Suspension Bible, I wanted another reference for tuning the suspension on motorcycles. I was recommended this book because of the technical expertise of the author, Andrew Trevitt, from Sport Rider. However, after reading the book I found it to be just as generic as the Suspension Bible, but the photographs did help in showing where the adjustments are found as well as the different suspension designs. The troubleshooting guide isn't that much different from the one provided in Lee Parks' Total Control or the Suspension Bible. It seems a lot of the adjustments are based on a bunch of variables that can change dramatically depending on the rider and conditions. Overall, I found it to be more geared towards advanced riders and racers. For beginners to intermediate riders that don't really need that extra 0.1 of a second from a lap will find the book educational, but not as mandatory or useful.Overall: 4/5 stars

I already have all the pre-requisite motorcycling books in my collection; Twist of the Wrist, Proficient Motorcycling etc. I never had a bike with adjustable suspension until now and I was going to take my bike to a professional to get set up for me. Well, after making a few calls I found out it was going to cost me a few bills to get set up correctly. Found this book and read it cover to cover twice. I learned so much information about setup. Each chapter was covered slowly and with ample diagrams. I ended up going over certain sections a few times for what I wanted to change on my bike. I was able to make minor changes that ended up feeling like big improvements. This was all just for street riding, Im sure for track preparedness I would want to take it to a professional. However, for the little that I was able to learn and do by myself clearly made this book an integral part of my collection.

Good insight and information on setting up modern suspension systems. Going from the "advances" of the old Koni adjustable hydraulics and spring preloading to the modern Showas and Ohlins was a big leap in sophistication and technology! Now better informed as to the needs and adjustments on my Ducatis.

There's an abundance of books out there on sport bike riding technique by a lot of authoritative personages, but, up to now, not a single one that I know of that's devoted strictly to sportbike suspension set up and tuning, which is the other half of the equation for going quicker.I've read many of Andrew Trevitt's articles in Sport Rider magazine on the subject and here he's put it all together and then quite a bit more. Not only does he explain how to set up your bike's suspension components in a very clear fashion, but, in sometimes excruciating detail, explains the why and the how it all works together.If you take the time to absorb its very well written 128 pages (and I had to do it in a number of sittings), you will end up with a comprehensive and thorough understanding of the subject, all you need to know. The accompanying photos and charts which are very well done certainly aid in the understanding of the subject matter.I had long been looking for one place where I could go and come away having all my questions answered about all aspects of suspension. Mr. Trevitt's book is where I found it.

Great book, but very technical. This is aimed at professional level techs or collage math at a minimum. That being said, if you want real understanding of how a motorcycle chase really works and what you can do to change it, this is a great book.

It is a reminder for those of us who like to think in terms of history being black and white, that there are a lot more issues that surround the times and nothing is ever so easy as we'd like to believe. The authors have navigated through some of the thorny issues with a fine touch by bringing a personal touch to it.The only issue I have with this book is that it does not cover her later years as much as I had hoped for. However, if there are books written about her children, I will definitely seek them out. I know this is a novel, but I feel as if this would be a good starting point in getting to know the history of our forefathers, as much as to encourage the interest in our leading ladies. These 2 authors have managed to bring a woman who has been buried under the dusty pages of history to life.And that is my favorite way to spend time ... reading about the ones who have lived before us. It is inspiring to read about people and be reminded that too, they were once flesh and blood, and survived to be remembered in history as to shape our country's path.

Very disappointed in this book after reading the reviews. I have read numerous books on Thomas Jefferson and know the history of the Revolution and the French Revolution fairly well. I was looking forward to reading about the President daughter, although I knew a little prior to reading. I felt the undocumented romance between "Patsy" and William short did not add anything, yet it took up almost the first half of the book, then jumped quickly to her marriage to Thomas Mann Randolph. The Randolphs and Jeffersons were related, but this didn't seem to really come through in the book. If this had been my first encounter with Thomas Jefferson I would have come away with a very disappointed view of the man. Never did I really get an idea of the "great" sacrifices he made for this country, nor any evidence of his brilliance. As for the daughter, I don't seem to have a feeling for her one way or another, certainly not one of great respect, which I thought I would have after reading the book. Disappointed in the history content and in the way the life of Patsy Jefferson Randolph was developed.

It is all told from ‘Patsy'- Jefferson’s daughter’s viewpoint. It would have been of additional interest if more clues to her age would have been included at various times as the novel takes us from 1781 to 1830. There is no hint given how Jefferson had copies of letters he had written, there could have been mention of his polygraph- where one pen moved another and made a copy of what he was writing therefore giving Martha the copies she reads after Jefferson’s death.This book is an extraordinary journey in many ways, not only does it give one a picture of Martha Patsy Jefferson Randolph, but of Jefferson, Sally Hemings and so many other historic characters. The culture and society of the time is well described; but more than that the emotions of these personalities draw one into their lives.Martha Jefferson did not lead an easy life and one can learn that the planter classes of Virginia did not have an existence of ease and leisure. Martha-Patsy endures trials and tribulations but her loyalty to her family shines through her problems. One might assume that her time as the daughter of Jefferson as minister to France and his status as an historical icon would have given her a lifetime of glory and happiness. Instead we see a hard life which gives a reader a more realistic view.Even though the pages are filled tears and fears and financial hardships amongst the new dresses and political gatherings and family love, all is so well written that we feel as if we really know this young girl as she grows into an older respected lady and with that we come to understand more of Jefferson and Monticello than we did before.Those who love history and of course Jefferson will wish to read this deeply detailed and remarkable story of his family.

About the Author

William J. Chambliss, professor of sociology at The George Washington University, was a critical sociological theorist whose research has ranged broadly from studies of law creation and the legal system to participant observation studies of juvenile gangs, organized crime, policing, and the impact of social movements on political and economic change. He served as president of the American Society of Criminology and the Society for the Study of Social Problems. He has received numerous awards for his research and teaching, including the prestigious Edwin H. Sutherland Award from the American Society of Criminology, the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Sociological Association, the Bruce Smith Lifetime Achievement Award from the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences, the PASS Award from the National Council on Crime and Delinquency, and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Sociology of Law Section of the American Sociological Association. He has authored and edited over 35 books in sociology, criminology and criminal justice and numerous articles in social science journals.

Daina S. Eglitis is an associate professor of sociology and international affairs and director of the undergraduate program in the Department of Sociology at The George Washington University. Her research highlights sociological dimensions of change in the post-communist world, with a particular focus on stratification, poverty, and gender. She has been the recipient of Fulbright, IREX, and Open Society awards and is the author of several articles and a book on post-communist social change. She also writes for and about teaching in the undergraduate classroom and is the author of the article, “The Uses of Global Poverty: How Inequality Benefits the West,” and the Teaching Sociology article, “Performing Theory: Dramatic Learning in the Theory Classroom.”
